: Interior Minister Faeser: Bans on Hamas and Samidoun soon

The Chancellor announced the activity bans in a government statement. They have not yet been implemented. But now things have to go quickly.

According to Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, the planned bans on Hamas and the pro-Palestinian network Samidoun will take place soon. When asked when the activity bans announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) against the Islamist Hamas and Samidoun would be imposed, the SPD politician told the German Press Agency in Rabat that this would “take place in a few days.”

In a government statement on October 12, Scholz announced bans on activities for Hamas, which rules in the Gaza Strip and is classified as a terrorist organization by the USA, as well as for Samidoun. However, these have not yet been implemented. A spokeswoman for the responsible Federal Ministry of the Interior said last week that the bans would now be implemented “very quickly”.

Faeser was in Morocco on Monday and Tuesday. The Gaza war was not the focus of her discussions with government officials there, she said. However, it was signaled to her that the Moroccans “very strongly reject” Hamas’ violent acts. There have been pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the kingdom in recent weeks. Hamas symbols were not shown there.
