Robert Habeck’s video speech on the war in the Middle East and anti-Semitism in Germany sparked a huge response. Now the Vice Chancellor himself has commented on his speech.
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck sees his much-noticed video on solidarity with Israel and the Jews as a contribution to enlightenment and would like to see more such statements. After many conversations with representatives of the Jewish community and Jewish friends over the weekend, he thought about “untangling the confusing debate a little,” said the Green politician on Thursday before his departure for the AI security summit in Milton Keynes, England .
When asked whether Chancellor Olaf Scholz should give such a speech, Habeck said that the Chancellor gave “very big and classifying speeches.” One cannot have enough of such debate contributions in these difficult times. “The Chancellor does this very well in his own way, in his formats,” added Habeck.
In a video that his ministry distributed on social media on Wednesday evening, Habeck strongly condemned anti-Semitism in Germany and called for solidarity with Jews.
