Sahra Wagenknecht has announced her departure from the Left and plans to found a new party. A public survey provides an initial insight into how this plan is being received.
According to the ARD “Deutschlandtrend”, around one in three eligible voters rates Sahra Wagenknecht’s founding of a new party positively. In a survey by the Infratest dimap institute, 36 percent expressed this opinion.
But about half of those surveyed (51 percent) take the opposite view. 29 percent said that voting for such a party would generally be an option for them. The proportion is higher in the east (39 percent) than in the west (26 percent).
For the representative survey, 1,314 eligible voters were surveyed from Monday to Wednesday, as WDR announced.
At the beginning of last week, Wagenknecht announced her departure from the Left and plans to found a new party. First, the “Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht” association will collect donations for this purpose. The party is scheduled to be founded in January. According to Wagenknecht, she should run in the European elections in June 2024. The aim is also to take part in the state elections in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg in September.
