Sahra Wagenknecht does not want to become chairwoman of her party “BSW”.

Although the future party “BSW” – Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht – is named after herself, the currently independent politician apparently does not want to become the party leader. But she has another person in mind.

Former left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht does not want to become chairwoman of her own party. She “doesn’t have the right to do and fix everything in this party now,” said Wagenknecht, according to WDR, in the ARD program “Confrontation: Markus Feldenkirchen meets Sahra Wagenknecht,” which is scheduled to be broadcast on Sunday. She assumes that “someone else will be the party chairman.”

When asked who would be considered for the party leadership, Wagenknecht said: Amira Mohamed Ali “could do it very well.” She has experience, “also in the organizational area, where she is significantly better than me.” Mohamed Ali was the parliamentary group leader of the Left in the Bundestag.

Sahra Wagenknecht would like to take care of federal politics

Wagenknecht remained open to a top candidate in next year’s European elections: “There’s a lot to be said for it, but there’s also a lot to be said against it,” she said on the show. A final decision has not yet been made. However, her main focus will continue to be on federal politics in the future.

Wagenknecht underlined her claim that she wanted to take government responsibility with her planned new party. When asked, she replied: “Yes, of course! I would like to see a different policy in our country, one that doesn’t just sit out problems all the time.”

Regarding possible future coalition partners, Wagenknecht said that Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) “wouldn’t be someone I could imagine us coming to a common denominator on.” She rejected a coalition with today’s Greens. “It’s out of the question to form a coalition with them.”

Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) criticized Wagenknecht with the words: “I don’t think she helps our country’s reputation the way she drives around the world with her finger raised. I miss the diplomatic flair that I expect from someone who is the foreign minister is.”

With a view to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Wagenknecht would welcome the intervention of former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD): “Well, I am grateful for anyone who can mediate. And of course it makes sense to mediate in a conflict like this, that you have a certain amount of access. Of course, you would then have to get a certain authorization from the federal government.”

Wagenknecht announced at the end of October that he would found a new party in January. Together with nine other MPs, she announced that she was leaving the Left party.
