Only a few people are currently able to leave the embattled Gaza Strip. The information about which countries the people who left the country come from varies slightly.
Hundreds of foreigners and Palestinians have once again left the Gaza Strip with second passports. More than 800 of them crossed the Rafah border crossing into Egypt, said a spokesman for the checkpoint on the Palestinian side.
This means that around 2,700 foreigners and Palestinians with second passports have left the sealed-off coastal area since the border was reopened about a week and a half ago.
A representative of the Egyptian Red Crescent initially only said that 500 of them had arrived on the Egyptian side of the border crossing. The majority come from Russia and Ukraine. In addition, they are Egyptians who originally came from the Palestinian territories.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations also announced that 70 people with Russian passports left via Rafah on Sunday alone. According to previous information, up to 600 people with Russian citizenship could be in the Gaza Strip, the Tass agency reported.
The state-affiliated Egyptian television station Al-Kahira News reported that around 500 of those leaving the country came from around 15 countries, including Germany, the USA, China and France. They waited in the border crossing hall for their exit formalities to be completed so that they could then continue their journey with the support of their embassies.
