With a view to the supply situation in isolated North Korea, the two governments agree to strengthen their ties. They hope to find oil and gas off Korea’s coast.
According to official information from Moscow, Russia and North Korea want to deepen their mutual cooperation. At a meeting of a bilateral government commission between the two countries, joint exploration for oil and gas off the coast of Korea was agreed, said Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Mineral Resources Alexander Kozlov, according to the Interfax news agency.
In addition, deposits of gold and rare earths should be searched for. It’s about an “all-encompassing strengthening of connections,” said Koslow, against the backdrop of allegations that North Korea is supplying weapons for Russia’s war of aggression.
According to Kozlov, the expansion of Russian deliveries of flour, corn and soybean oil was discussed. According to the UN, the supply situation in North Korea, which is extremely isolated from the outside world, is precarious. Media reported several times about hunger in the country. Kozlov left it unclear what Pyongyang would deliver to Moscow in return for the food. Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin received North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on a state visit in September. During his five-day visit, Kim visited many defense companies.
Neither country has officially announced any arms deals. The Kremlin rejected allegations from the White House that North Korea was supplying weapons for Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The USA had provided no evidence of this, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, pointing out that Russia and North Korea had decided to expand cooperation in “all areas” – no one had any right to interfere.
