In the Ibiza committee, the ex-chancellor presented his role in the appointment of Thomas Schmid to the Öbag board as informed, but not involved. Chat histories later suggested that Kurz played a much more active role.
According to reports from several media, the WKStA reconstructed a photo of a side letter on the turquoise-blue government pact on Hartwig Löger’s (VP) mobile phone and presented it to the ex-finance minister. On the photo from January 14, 2019 it should be read that the board of directors and the supervisory board of the state holding are “nominated by the ÖVP”.
From chats on the same day between Schmid and Kurz ?? Cabinet chief Bernhard Bonelli concludes the WKStA that it was about personnel decisions. Löger is said to have stated that he “informed a good part” of the supervisory board proposals, but did not ask for approval. The interpretation of the ÖVP is different: The document comes from the government negotiations in 2017 with the FPÖ. As before with the SPÖ and most recently with the Greens, “standardization rights and staffing”, which a government has to exercise, have been regulated.
