The current corona situation dwarfs the coalition agreement of the future traffic light government. The “coalition of the future” has taken on a lot. What else is in store for us?
177 pages thick – and the content rotated on many points: the new coalition agreement promises many changes for all of us. This is also sorely needed, because somehow the climate crisis has to be overcome and digitalization has to move forward. But how? In an interview with “important today” host Michel Abdollahi, the head of the stern-Capital offices, Horst von Buttlar, the main projects of the new traffic light alliance. He says: “The coalition agreement is the greatest transformation since 1990.”
Property owners are facing particularly big changes: “If you have a house, you have to do something in the next five or six years: replace the heating, insulate, replace the windows, comply with very ambitious energy standards,” says von Buttlar. When it comes to mobility, too, we all have to rethink: “Car buyers should assume that in eight years only CO2-neutral vehicles will be registered.” And the SPD, Greens and FDP also want to expand rail traffic – and thus create incentives to switch from cars to rail. How quickly and, above all, how specifically the plans will actually be implemented will only become apparent in the next few years.
BVG judgment: a damper for the FDP
The federal emergency brake was legal – the Federal Constitutional Court has now decided. For one of the traffic light parties, of all things, a pretty damper, after all, the FDP itself filed the lawsuit against the law from April this year. But the verdict does not necessarily have to mean a loss of political face, he estimates stern-Editor Jonas Schulze Pals in the podcast “Today important”. After the verdict, the FDP emphasized accepting the decision – but: “The argument of many FDP politicians is that you don’t have to implement everything that is allowed.”
At the same time, however, the judgment could also be an opportunity for the party to justify a change in course. After all, the traffic light coalition has to decide by Thursday at the latest which Corona course it wants to drive in the next few weeks. And the judgment also covers tough measures with sufficient justification, says Jonas Schulze Pals: “We can see that the virus is still spreading rapidly – the intensive care units are full. In this respect, the basis has also been created to take tough measures again.”
