Fierce debates about corona infections on the FPÖ tour

A major FPÖ event took place in Wolfsberg on November 5th. In the near future, the number of infections in the district skyrocketed; the seven-day incidence is currently over 2,000, making the district the sad leader in Austria.

The Carinthian State Health Councilor Beate Prettner (SPÖ) pointed out the temporal connection between Kickl’s visit to Wolfsberg and the increasing number of infections and criticized the Freedom Party at a press conference on Tuesday. There was also material for debate after it became known that the singer of the folk music group “Die Fidelen Mölltaler”, Ludwig “Lucky” Ladstätter, died on Monday after two weeks of fighting Corona in the Wolfsberg hospital. He had also attended the FPÖ event, as shown by a photo of him with Kickl, which he himself posted on Instagram. According to information from Kabeg, the state hospital in Wolfsberg is working at full capacity. Since all hospitals in the state cooperate with intensive care patients, the question of whether the intensive care unit in Wolfsberg is overloaded cannot be answered that way. 57 people in Carinthia are currently receiving intensive medical care due to corona.

FP locates “patch maneuvers”

FPÖ General Secretary Michael Schnedlitz sees the allegations against his party as a “patch maneuver” by the SPÖ. He emphasized that as part of the FPÖ’s freedom tour in Carinthia on November 5 and 6, all valid corona rules had been complied with. “All visitors were checked on entry, not by FPÖ employees, but by a specially committed security company,” Schnedlitz said in a broadcast on Wednesday. Only those who could present a 3G certificate were admitted. He also pointed out that there were two ice hockey games with thousands of visitors on the same evening in Villach and Klagenfurt. There are no accusations of Prettner here, criticized Schnedlitz.

The Wolfsberg district captain Georg Fejan said in the Ö1 lunch journal that the event had been registered as a meeting. “The meeting was monitored by the police, and people were sent away again.” From a legal point of view, the meeting was announced in good time and the requirements were adhered to. It is very difficult to say whether there was a corona cluster. According to Fejan, there is no conclusion about this gathering from contact tracing. But it cannot be ruled out either.
