As of today, employees in geriatric care receive more money. A further increase in wages is already planned.
Around 1.3 million geriatric care workers who receive minimum wage will receive more money at the start of the new month. As of December 1st, the minimum wage per hour is 18.25 euros (+ 60 cents) for nursing staff, 15.25 euros (+ 35 cents) for qualified nursing assistants and 14.15 euros (+ 25 cents) per hour for nursing assistants gone up.
A further increase is planned for May 1st next year. From then on, skilled workers should receive 19.50 euros, qualified unskilled workers 16.50 euros and unskilled workers 15.50 euros. As of July 1, 2025, the minimum wages for skilled workers will increase by another euro, for qualified unskilled workers by 85 cents and for unskilled workers by 60 cents.
The increases are implemented by regulation from the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs and are based on recommendations from the eight-member nursing commission. It is made up of employer and employee representatives from the care industry.
