Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has been re-elected Chairman of United Russia. The corresponding decision was made on December 4 by the party congress.
According to the party charter, the term of office of the chairman of United Russia is five years.
Ex-chairman of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov, in turn, was re-elected chairman of the Supreme Council of the political force.
Earlier at the congress, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that United Russia had proved that it was the party-leader by right, having won a landslide victory in the autumn elections to the State Duma. According to him, the political force has offered citizens a creative and unifying agenda. The Russian leader noted that the party has all the resources to support people with problems they face. The President positively assessed the decision of United Russia to report annually to the population of the country.
The political force is holding on Saturday the third, final stage of its jubilee, XX Congress, at which it sums up the results of the September elections to the State Duma and rotates the party’s governing bodies.
As a result of the parliamentary elections, United Russia won, gaining 49.82% of the vote. 18.93% of voters voted for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. LDPR – in third place with 7.55%. “Fair Russia” is also in the top five – 7.46%. In addition, New People for the first time crossed the 5% electoral barrier, gaining 5.32% of the vote.
