Ukraine: What the lack of financial aid means for the country

The future of Ukraine remains a hanging game. The EU summit cleared the way for accession negotiations. A success. But financial aid from Europe and the USA is not coming for the time being.

The historic triumph was quickly mixed with disillusionment. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj wrote enthusiastically on the short message service X: “A victory that motivates, inspires and strengthens. History is made by those who never tire of fighting for freedom.”

That was shortly after the European Union decided to start accession negotiations with Ukraine.
