The congress of “United Russia” on December 4 unanimously re-elected the first vice-speaker of the Federation Council, Andrei Turchak, as the secretary of the general council of the party.
The decision was taken by secret ballot by members of the party’s general council.
“We have gone through a sufficient number of tests, several electoral cycles, a presidential campaign, voting on amendments to the Constitution, elections to the State Duma of the VIII convocation. Each of you has worked efficiently and honestly in your place. I promise to fulfill this five-year term just as honestly. I am sure that together we will be able to implement the tasks set before us by the president and voters, ”Turchak said.
He has headed the party’s general council since 2017.
Also, the congress of “United Russia” re-elected the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev as the chairman of the party. According to the party charter, the term of office of the chairman of the United Russia is five years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a video message to the participants of the plenary session, said that United Russia has proved that it is the party-leader by right, having won a landslide victory in the autumn elections to the State Duma. According to him, the political force has offered citizens a creative and unifying agenda.
“United Russia” is holding on Saturday the third, final stage of its jubilee, XX Congress, at which it sums up the results of the September elections to the State Duma. The third stage is timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of United Russia, which was celebrated on December 1.
