Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to the statement by the White House press secretary Jen Psaki about Ukraine’s membership in NATO and Russia’s role in resolving this issue. She voiced her opinion on Sunday, December 5th.
In response to the accusation of “provocation” by Russia, which was voiced in a White House statement, Zakharova recalled numerous cases of US aggression over the past decades – from the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to Syria and Afghanistan.
“Important to remember. Not to forget, Jen, ”Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
The statement that the decision to enter NATO of a particular country is made by the members of the alliance, and not by Russia, the press secretary of the White House announced on Friday, December 3.
Prior to that, on December 2, Zakharova said that Ukraine’s joining NATO would become a “red line” for Russia. She stressed that after the end of the Cold War, Moscow was assured that the military forces of the alliance would not advance east, but the promises were forgotten and not fulfilled. The result was the sad state of European security.
