In November, people in the USA will elect a president for the 60th time. Donald Trump wants to try again. The incumbent President Joe Biden finds clear words.
On the third anniversary of the storming of the US Capitol, President Joe Biden warned against another presidency by Republican Donald Trump. “This is the first national election since the January 6 insurrection, when a dagger was put at the throat of American democracy,” the Democrat said at a campaign rally in the US state of Pennsylvania. “As we begin this election year, we must be clear that voting is about democracy.”
Biden expressed concern about the heated political mood in the country. “Trump and his supporters not only advocate political violence, they laugh at it,” warned Biden. The Republican is ready to seize power. There is no doubt “who Trump is and what he is up to.” Political violence is never acceptable in the United States, Biden said. “Never, never, never.”
On January 6, 2021, Trump’s supporters violently stormed the parliament building in Washington. Congress met there to formally confirm Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election. Trump had previously incited his supporters during a speech with unsubstantiated claims that the election victory had been stolen from him through massive fraud.
As things stand now, there are signs of a possible repeat of the duel between Biden and Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
