Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the new chairman of the ruling Austrian People’s Party, Karl Nehammer, on taking office as Federal Chancellor of Austria. The telegram of the head of state was published on December 7 on his Facebook page by the Russian Ambassador to Vienna Dmitry Lyubinsky.

According to Putin, Russia values ​​constructive relations with Austria. The Russian leader expressed the hope that the work of Nehammer at the head of the Austrian government will contribute to the development of cooperation between countries in different directions.

“This, undoubtedly, meets the interests of our peoples, goes in line with the strengthening of stability and security on the European continent,” the telegram says.

Putin wished the Austrian Chancellor success, prosperity and health.

The fact that Nehammer will become the chancellor of Austria became known on December 3.

On the eve of the Minister of Finance of Austria and the head of the Austrian People’s Party Gernot Blumel announced his resignation. On the same day, Sebastian Kurz officially announced that he was leaving the post of chairman of the party, which is part of the ruling coalition with the Greens, and was leaving Austrian politics.

After that, the current Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced his readiness to leave this post. He admitted that he never wanted to take on the function of the federal party leader.

In October, Kurz announced his resignation as Austrian Chancellor in connection with an investigation by the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office.
