A vehicle drove into an outer gate at the White House in the US capital Washington on Monday evening (local time). The driver was taken into custody, the Secret Service responsible for protecting the president announced on the X platform, formerly Twitter.
The cause and “manner of the collision” were being investigated, it said. US President Joe Biden was not in the White House at the time of the incident. The police temporarily closed off large areas of the streets around the president’s official residence. A helicopter circled over the complex at times. There were initially no reports of injuries.
