Left managing director Tobias Bank has submitted his resignation due to a dispute over the direction of the party. “The current course of concentrating almost everything on movements outside parliaments and on urban milieus and apparently no longer seeing election results as a measure of political success is not my understanding of politics,” Bank wrote to party members.
“Under these conditions, I don’t want to continue to be a fig leaf for a supposed pluralism of opinions within the party,” he added. “Therefore, I can no longer take responsibility for the challenges ahead for The Left.” He doesn’t hold any grudges. Members’ meetings had shown him that “the Left is not lost and that the next federal party conference can correct course.”

The 38-year-old bank was only elected federal managing director in 2022. The Berliner emphasized that he does not belong to any of the various movements within the party.
