The RF Security Council pointed to the attempts of Western countries to politicize the situation in the Arctic

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev announced the attempts of Western countries to politicize the situation in the Arctic. He said this at a meeting of the interdepartmental commission on ensuring Russia’s national interests in the Arctic on Wednesday, December 8.

“Recently, we have been constantly faced with attempts by Western countries to politicize the situation in the Arctic. Probably, this has happened in our memory before, but now it has become more, “- quotes the deputy chairman of the TASS Security Council.

He also noted that Russia needs to pay attention to the development of a modern system for monitoring natural processes in the Arctic.

Medvedev stressed that work in the Arctic should be organized so that there is not even the slightest reason for accusations, and in cases of politicized attacks – to expose them, according to the website kp.ru.

On November 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin made changes to the strategy for the development of the Arctic region and canceled a number of decrees, according to which certain regions of Karelia were previously equated to the territories of the Far North, RT reports.

A month earlier, on October 15, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that by 2024, 9 billion rubles would be allocated from the state budget for the development of Russian technologies in the field of hydrogen energy. According to him, in particular, funds will be allocated for the creation of test sites for the introduction of hydrogen energy technologies in the Arctic.
