Survey: Chancellor Wagenknecht? 17 percent want that

How successful will Sahra Wagenknecht’s alliance be in the super election year of 2024? Some Germans could even imagine the front woman as chancellor – as a minister she would have even more support.

Sahra Wagenknecht as Chancellor – 17 percent of participants in a YouGov survey would want this if Wagenknecht’s new party runs in the federal election. YouGov determined this for the dpa. 64 percent of those surveyed in 2007 do not want the 54-year-old to head a government. 19 percent did not provide any information or did not commit.

As a minister, Wagenknecht would have more support: 36 percent of those surveyed were in favor of the new party participating in government with Wagenknecht as a federal minister, of which 13 percent were “completely” and 23 percent “somewhat.” 47 percent “somewhat” or “completely” rejected this. The outliers are the Left supporters surveyed: 69 percent of them were in favor of a government participation with a minister Wagenknecht and 45 percent would like her to be Chancellor.

Dual leadership with Amira Mohamed Ali

The Sahra Wagenknecht alliance was formed as a party last week. Wagenknecht was active in the Left Party for a long time and sits in the Bundestag. She is in dual leadership with the former leader of the left faction, Amira Mohamed Ali, chairwoman of the new party.

There was also a question about one of Wagenknecht’s important concerns: the resumption of energy imports from Russia with the aim of driving down prices in Germany. 32 percent of respondents said the federal government should make efforts to resume gas and oil imports from Russia; 53 percent spoke out against it, 15 percent didn’t say anything or said they didn’t know.

The error tolerance for the total sample of 2007 respondents is plus/minus 2.19 percentage points for a proportion of 50 percent and plus/minus 0.95 percentage points for a proportion of 5 percent.
