Putin appreciated the idea of returning to one-day voting in the elections in the Russian Federation

On December 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the advantages of a three-day voting in the elections, but promised to consider returning to one-day elections.

During the meeting of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, an appeal was made to the Russian leader to return the one-day voting regime to the country to increase the level of citizens’ confidence.

In response, Putin noted that the three-day voting is practiced in the world and allows you to reach more people.

At the same time, he pointed to the imperfection of the electoral process in the world, in particular in the United States, where the voting, according to him, can last for weeks. He was also skeptical about the permissibility of casting his vote by mail. According to Putin, in this case, there are no observers who could check the honesty of voters.

“Therefore, a one-day or three-day voting is something to think about. I really understand what you are talking about, and it’s hard for me to argue with you, I don’t want to. Of course, probably one day, when everyone came, everything was quick, everything was done specifically. Maybe this is a controversial issue, but we need to think about it, ”the president said.

Earlier at the same meeting, Putin agreed to a proposal to improve voting methods for compatriots abroad, regardless of additional costs.

In 2021, elections to the State Duma were first held in a new, three-day format. September 19 was the main voting day, and September 17 and 18 were additional. Online voting was provided to residents of seven regions – Moscow, Murmansk, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Yaroslavl regions, as well as Sevastopol.
