Numerous people have been demonstrating against right-wing extremism for weeks. Now celebrities like Udo Lindenberg and Florian Silbereisen are taking a stand.
More than 30 celebrities from entertainment, sports and business – including Helene Fischer and Florian Silbereisen – are taking a stand against right-wing extremism and calling on German citizens to vote. “In the coming elections, in Germany and in Europe, it will be decided which country we will live in in the future. Do the right thing, go vote! For democracy and against the extremists,” says singer Fischer (39) for the cover story quoted by the magazine “Stern”.
Silbereisen (42) said: “Nothing, absolutely nothing, justifies contempt for humanity! Never! We have to make sure that no one has to be afraid – no matter what they believe in, where they come from or who they love.”
The celebrities also include Udo Lindenberg, Collien Ulmen-Fernandes, Maite Kelly, Roland Kaiser, Mario Barth, Atze Schröder, Florian David Fitz and Michael “Bully” Herbig.
Helene Fischer also said: “Discrimination, racism, hatred and violence are poisoning our society. I want to live in an open, tolerant and diverse Germany and wish for a colorful future for our children. We have to defend our values and our democracy now and must not leave the field to the anti-democrats.”
Lindenberg said: “Millions of people have shown a clear stance, the fever is rising in the streets, and the message to politicians is clear: something has to happen now, no more coziness with the AfD’s destroyers of democracy, hard borders to the far right and no lazy ones compromises.” Mario Barth said succinctly: “You have to fight racism and anti-Semitism. It’s no laughing matter.”
National soccer player Alexandra Popp told “Stern”: “It’s a great signal that the silent majority in this country is no longer silent, but is taking to the streets and showing its colors. I too would like to live in a cosmopolitan and colorful Germany in which Right-wing extremist ideas have no place.”
