The British Prime Minister exploited the definition of womanhood as a political point of contention under the eyes of the mother of a murdered trans teenager. Now the girl’s father speaks.
The father of a murdered trans teenager has demanded an apology from British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his comments in Parliament. Making “such derogatory comments” as prime minister – even in the context of a parliamentary debate – was “absolutely dehumanizing,” he said, according to television channel Sky News.
Sunak has been criticized for exploiting the definition of womanhood as a political point of contention while the mother of the murdered girl was visiting Parliament in London as a guest. 16-year-old Brianna was murdered by two teenagers in February 2023. According to the judge, transphobic motives also played a role.
“People’s identities should not be exploited in this way and I am personally shocked by his comments and think he should apologize for his comments,” the father continued. Transgender means that people do not feel like they belong to the gender they were assigned at birth.
During the parliamentary debate, Sunak listed several points on which opposition leader Keir Starmer had allegedly backed down. Sunak made fun of the fact that the Labor Party leader finds it difficult to “define a woman”. Starmer reacted angrily.
It was a shame for Sunak to say this when Brianna’s mother was listening. Several MPs then shouted “shame”. A member of the government emphasized that Sunak wanted to use several examples to make Starmer’s U-turn clear. Sunak would like to meet Brianna’s family, Secretary of State Chris Philp told the PA news agency.
