There have recently been several deadly terrorist attacks in Turkey that have been linked to IS. Now the authorities are cracking down on crime.
Turkish authorities have arrested 147 suspects for suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia. As Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on the X platform (formerly Twitter), the authorities carried out 33 raids in the capital Ankara, Istanbul and other cities. Yerlikaya promised that he would continue his operations in the country “for peace and unity.”
There have been several deadly terrorist attacks in Turkey in the past that have been linked to ISIS. The terrorist militia is held responsible for an attack in January on a Catholic church in Istanbul in which one person was killed.
In subsequent raids, a total of 47 people were arrested as part of the investigation. In 2017, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for an attack on an Istanbul nightclub in which 39 people were killed.
