In December, IDF fighters accidentally shot and killed Iris Haim’s kidnapped son during an operation in Gaza. Instead of being angry with the soldiers, she invited the young men. In the starIn the interview, the mother talks about the moving encounter and what now gives her comfort.
“Hello to the Bislach Brigade, Battalion 17, this is Iris Haim,” begins the voice message that Iris Haim sent to the men who shot her son. “I wanted to tell you that I love you very much and hug you from a distance.”
Her son, Yotam Haim, 28, managed to escape captivity with two other hostages in mid-December. But Israeli soldiers mistook the three for Hamas terrorists – and shot them dead. Yotam’s mother has now become a symbol of forgiveness in Israel; she speaks publicly about her son every day.
