How safe are children online? Four months after a terrifying experiment, the broadcaster RTL is asking again. The podcast also deals with the question of whether the warning systems failed before the flood.
How quickly do children become targets of abusive sexual inquiries on the Internet? In March, RTL did an experiment for the program “Attack on our children”. The result was terrifying. Now the station has taken up the subject again and asks what has happened since then. In the “Today important” podcast, Michel Abdollahi talks about it with RTL presenter Nazan Eckes, herself a mother of two children. Parents, she says, should “be vigilant and know exactly where their children are”.
Strange gut feeling
Eckes is convinced: “Something has to be done to make the Internet safer for children and young people.” The first broadcast was followed by over 7,000 calls with pertinent notices that led to ten other specific reports of sexual assault against children. If you have a strange gut feeling as a parent or relative, there is always something to it, says the moderator.

Podcast “important today”
Sure, strong opinion, on the 12: “Today important” is not just a news podcast. We set topics and initiate debates – with poise and sometimes uncomfortably. Host Michel Abdollahi and his team speak out for this stern– and RTL reporters: inside with the most exciting people from politics, society and entertainment. They let all voices have their say, the quiet and the loud. Anyone who hears “important today” starts the day with information and can have a sound say.
Missing warning?
Another topic that followed is the discussion as to whether disaster control failed in Germany before the floods. The head of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Armin Schuster defended himself with the words: “Our warning system worked in every single case.” But in many places the warnings did not reach the population.
