The Cabinet of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Germany refused to recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate President of Belarus

The new government of Germany does not consider the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as the legitimate leader of the country. On December 13, at a briefing in Berlin, this was announced to reporters by the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Steffen Hebeshtreit.

“We do not see Alexander Lukashenko as the legitimate ruler of Belarus,” he said.

On December 10, Lukashenka said that Western pressure on Belarus will increase and new packages of sanctions are possible.

Earlier, on December 2, Lukashenko called his decision to run for president of Belarus in the elections in August 2020 the most important in his life. At the same time, he stressed that the leadership of the republic in no way tried to rig the voting results.

After the presidential elections held in Belarus on August 9, 2020, in which Lukashenko won for the sixth time, who, according to the Central Election Commission of the republic, gained 80.1% of the vote, mass opposition protests began in the country. The results of the vote were not recognized by the US and EU countries.
