After Navalny’s death: “The protest mood in Russia is lower than ever before”

Vladimir Putin has opposition figures like Alexei Navalny killed, the country becomes a pariah in the global community – but the Russians themselves hardly seem to be bothered by this. This is what the surveys by pollster Lev Gudkow show. What is his explanation?

Very close to your office is the memorial stone for the victims of political repression. In recent days, Muscovites have laid flowers here to commemorate those murdered Alexei Navalny to remember. What do people in Russia think about his death?
Of course, we only know this after our surveys. I assume that most people react indifferently. His death will satisfy some. For about 20 percent, his death comes as a shock. Many will also say that they know nothing about it. Television hides the murder and it doesn’t appear in the news. In a survey last year, 23 percent said they did not know Navalny.
