Greenpeace projects the slogan “Hands off Ukraine” on the facade of the Russian embassy. Not far away, thousands gather to remember together.
Several thousand people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin in the early afternoon to commemorate the Russian attack on Ukraine exactly two years ago. Many participants in the rally carried Ukrainian flags. Others showed their assessment of the war on banners and posters.
For example, “Russia is always lying” could be read there, “The devil is in the Kremlin” or “Russia is a terrorist state”, a slogan that was shouted several times by the crowd. According to initial estimates by the Berlin police, more than 3,000 people took part in the solidarity rally. 2000 participants were registered.
Russia invaded the neighboring country with thousands of soldiers on February 24, 2022. Since then, tens of thousands of people have been killed or injured, including thousands of civilians in Ukraine. Russia currently controls about a fifth of Ukraine’s territory.
Early on Saturday morning, activists from the environmental organization Greenpeace projected several lettering onto the facade of the Russian embassy in Berlin in protest against Russia’s war against Ukraine. “Stop the killing” and “Hands off Ukraine” could be read on the Unter den Linden building in the morning in German and English. Activists held up posters.
