On the day of Alexei Navalny’s funeral, something unusual happened: thousands of Russians showed their condolences on the streets of Moscow – and expressed their opposition to the Putin regime. Impressions of a moving day.
At the end there was a shower of flowers for Alexei Navalny.
When four men in black clothing carried the coffin out of the church after the funeral service – much faster than anyone had expected – bouquets flew from the crowd. Hundreds of people crowded into the forecourt of the church. Many handed their flowers to those standing at the barriers. They threw them into the churchyard. “Thank you, Alexei,” many shouted and applauded.
