Afghanistan: Missiles near the presidential palace – prayers do not let themselves be disturbed

See in the video: Rockets hit near the presidential palace – only a few prayers let themselves be disturbed.

Rockets hit near the presidential palace in Kabul: Several rockets fell on Tuesday near the presidential palace in the Afghan capital Kabul. Live footage from a television station showed this happening during prayers to mark the beginning of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. President Ashraf Ghani and other believers around him continued their prayers despite several loud explosions. There were initially no reports of possible injuries. It was also unclear who was responsible for the rocket impact. The radical Islamic Taliban have been advancing for weeks and have already brought many districts of the country under their control. Talks between them and the government in Kabul about suspending the offensive during the festival of the sacrifice had remained fruitless. The advance of the extremists was preceded by the withdrawal of foreign troops. From 1996 until it was overthrown by US-led troops in 2001, the Taliban ruled Afghanistan and massively curtailed human rights. The US government intervened in Afghanistan at the head of a NATO alliance shortly after the attacks of September 11, 2001. All US troops are to be withdrawn by the end of August this year. The Bundeswehr, which was stationed in Kunduz in the north, ended its mission on June 30th.
