Rendi-Wagner and Doskozil met secretly for a reconciliation talk

The meeting took place on Tuesday in Wolfsberg on the initiative of the Carinthian party leader Peter Kaiser. The three agreed that “the interests of the party” should be the focus of the work, Kaiser said afterwards.

Rendi-Wagner stated that the goal must be to “gain more trust from the population”: “We have to continue this course together.” When asked whether Doskozil would stick to what had been agreed, Kaiser said: “We can deal with each other. It was stated that the focus is not on one person, but on the content.”

Doskozil himself, meanwhile, proclaimed a ceasefire in an interview with “Today”: “War can never be the goal. There must always be a basis for discussion,” he said in the summer interview published on Wednesday, the newspaper announced on Tuesday. He wanted to seek a personal conversation with Pamela Rendi-Wagner “to find a common denominator”.

The Burgenland governor and the SPÖ boss have not been green for a long time and disagree on some substantive issues such as immigration. In the past few weeks the conflict has escalated to some extent publicly. Doskozil first compared the current SPÖ with the Mitterlehner ÖVP of the time, and Rendi-Wagner countered with a comparison to FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl, who “bullied” his predecessor Norbert Hofer.

Aside from the inner party, Rendi-Wagner’s two-day visit to Carinthia included company visits and meetings with party colleagues. On this occasion, Rendi-Wagner stated that the SPÖ wanted to bring the issue of care to the fore, and that the turquoise-green federal government was extremely delinquent here.

Carinthia was the starting point of a federal state tour that Rendi-Wagner will complete in the coming weeks. Visits to Tyrol and Styria should be on the agenda next. And a Burgenland day “will soon take place”, she announced when asked.
