Peskov assessed the possibility of negotiations between Putin and Biden before the end of the year

It is possible to hold another talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Joe Biden, but there are no agreements on this topic. This was announced on December 16 by the Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“It is possible, but there are no agreements,” he told reporters, answering a question about the possibility of holding a conversation between the heads of state before the end of the year.

The existence of the possibility of holding another summit of the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, as well as the absence of specific agreements on the timing of Peskov spoke the day before.

At the same time, Biden announced that he was counting on further contact with Putin. As the head of the White House noted, the next negotiations with the Russian leader will be more prolonged.

On December 12, Peskov said that after the conversation with the head of the White House, Putin did not have any special reasons for joy, since the situation that has developed at the moment is very serious. The Kremlin spokesman also noted that the leaders communicated specifically during the talks and did not allow discrepancies, even despite the friendly nature of the conversation.

The online summit of the two leaders took place on December 7 and lasted two hours.

The Kremlin said that the negotiations were frank and businesslike, the leaders discussed the implementation of the results of the Russian-American summit held in Geneva in June, and also agreed to continue the dialogue between the countries.

Biden pointed to the allegedly threatening nature of the movement of Russian troops near the Ukrainian borders and outlined sanctions measures that the United States and its allies would be ready to apply in the event of further escalation of the situation.

In response, Putin stressed that there is no need to shift the responsibility onto the shoulders of Russia, since it is NATO that is making dangerous attempts to conquer Ukrainian territory and is building up its military potential near the borders of the Russian Federation.

Experts interviewed by Izvestia said that the talks between the presidents of the two countries, despite the absence of specific agreements, are likely to ease tensions between Russia and the West over the Ukrainian crisis.
