FDP Justice Minister Marco Buschmann has been publishing electronic music he has produced himself for years. Why not? After all, his name is Marco and not Helmut.
“MB Sounds” – under this synonym, the newly sworn Federal Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann has been publishing his own songs on the Soundcloud music platform for years. Musically, they can be classified somewhere between electro, house and trance. The pieces have more or less ominous titles like “Excalibur Calls For Arthur”, “Driving To The Bar” or “Train To Berlin”.
“Since some media mentioned my SoundCloud channel, over 14,000 people have listened to my last track. I feel very honored. I hope no one’s ears hurt,” tweeted Buschmann on Tuesday.
Whether the quality of the beats is more in the direction of “I’ve found a keyboard in the basement and look what the keys do”, or whether Buschmann earns millions in Las Vegas after his political career as German Calvin Harris, is in the disco stars. It doesn’t matter what you think of Buschmann and his political line: The man has a right to his hobby. Now only his profile picture on Soundcloud (a selfie on which Buschmann’s smartphone is reflected in his violet-glazed sunglasses and / or 3D glasses) will trigger many painful external shame attacks.
On Twitter, the playground that has gone digital, the reactions are, hard to believe, mostly positive. Some users like the music, others praise the Gelsenkirchener for its ease. But Twitter wouldn’t be Twitter without comments like: “Omicron is rushing around our ears and you are celebrating your hobby on Twitter?” or “Yes, great, great, and now let’s get to work. You are a minister, not an entertainer”.
A man who heads the judicial apparatus of one of the world’s largest economies is not allowed to do that! If he has the nerve to pursue a hobby, then at least one that is appropriate to his position! Maybe fishing. Or clay pigeon shooting. Or model trains.
Helmuts have different hobbies than Marcos
Yes, hold on tight: the man’s name is Marco. And this Marco was born in 1977. We live in a time when our ministers are Robert, Nancy, Annalena. And just Marco. In 20 years, the German cabinet members will listen to names like Nico, Michelle, Celina, Serhad or Justin – and that’s a good thing. In 20 years, Foreign Minister Timo will be filming himself playing Minecraft in his spare time, while Finance Minister Lena will publish pet content on Tiktok every day. So what?
The dignity of a ministerial post does not stand or fall with the severity of the meaning of the name and also not with the leisure activities of the incumbent. The fact that a Helmut tends to be enthusiastic about other things than a Marco should not surprise anyone – and certainly not bother them.
By the way: MBSound’s most streamed song carries the. Buschmann uploaded the track six years ago when he was federal manager of the FDP. The song cover is a screenshot of an article in “Welt” – the headline: Christian Lindner announces completely renewed FDP “. We listen to today’s finance minister during an emotional sell-off for three minutes and 53 seconds, the whole thing accompanied by jittery beats. So what? the listeners’ ears hurt or not afterwards – Marco Buschmann has a hobby, and that’s healthy.
