After criticism of CDU politicians: Amthor distances himself from the photo

Philipp Amthor next to a man who wears a T-shirt with the Holocaust denier Haverbeck – this photo is shared many times on Twitter. The CDU politician says: He was “very annoyed” about the admission.

The CDU member of the Bundestag Philipp Amthor has distanced himself from a photo spread on the Internet.

“Of course I was very annoyed about this photo,” said Amthor of the German press agency in Wolgast in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The image spread on the Internet showed the politician at a horse festival in Boock, West Pomerania, between two men, one of whom is wearing a T-shirt showing solidarity with the convicted Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck.

“I cannot say with absolute certainty whether and to what extent the photo has been edited, but of course I would not have taken the photo if I had taken note of the t-shirt label.” It was not initially clear to dpa whether the photo had been manipulated.

On the sidelines of the award ceremony of the horse show, there were a number of photo requests. “It’s usually a matter of a few seconds in which you don’t look at all the details,” emphasized Amthor.

It is an expression of an absurd and unobjective election campaign to want to bring him close to right-wing extremists, “although my clear arguments against the AfD and against right-wing simplifiers are well known”. Amthor had already made a similar statement on Monday in social networks.
