Italy wants to extend the state of emergency corona until the end of October

The decision is to be taken at a Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, it said from government circles. The extension of the state of emergency by a further three months is necessary in view of the increasing number of corona infections in Italy and the ongoing vaccination campaign.

The government declared a state of emergency for six months on January 31, 2020 after the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus was detected in a Chinese couple in Rome. It was then renewed several times. Several government ordinances to protect public health are based on the state of emergency.

The Council of Ministers in Rome on Wednesday is also examining the introduction of compulsory vaccinations for teaching staff, as is already the case in Italy for health workers. In Italy, doctors and other medical personnel have been obliged to immunize since May 25th. Otherwise, they will be suspended from duty without a salary.
