The State Duma introduced a draft on criminal punishment for reckless drivers on the roads

The State Duma on Friday, December 17, introduced a bill on criminal punishment for reckless drivers on the roads. It is assumed that the measure will be up to two years in prison.

The bill was prepared by representatives of four Duma factions: Vladimir Vasiliev, Alexei Tkachev, Dmitry Vyatkin and Irina Pankina from United Russia, Yaroslav Nilov and Vasily Vlasov from the Liberal Democratic Party, Oleg Nilov from A Just Russia – For the Truth and Vladislav Davikykh lyudiukov …

The bill provides for criminal liability in case of violations of traffic rules, such as speeding by more than 60 km / h, but not more than 80 km / h, by more than 80 km / h, going into oncoming traffic or tramways on the opposite route if the driver who made them was previously twice subjected to administrative punishment for similar offenses and was deprived of his rights.

On the eve of the first deputy head of the United Russia faction Dmitry Vyatkin said that the Russian government had given a positive response to the bill on the introduction of criminal liability for reckless drivers for malicious violation of traffic rules.

Such a crime will be punishable by compulsory labor for up to 480 hours, forced labor for up to two years, or imprisonment for up to two years. Also, for this offense, a fine is provided from 200 thousand to 300 thousand rubles or in the amount of the convicted person’s income for a period from one to two years.

The question of toughening punishment for reckless drivers was raised shortly after the resonant road accident that occurred in Moscow on November 20. On that day, three cars – Volvo, Mercedes and BMW collided on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, the latter was driven by blogger Magomedsaid Zainudinov, also known as Said Gubdensky. He and his passenger – the president of the Federation of Automobile and Motor Sports of Dagestan Zaur Ibragimov – were killed.

Two people were also injured – one from a Volvo car and one from a Mercedes.

According to the source, at the time of the accident, BMW was overspeed, the driver was playing checkers on the road. At the same time, back in April, Zaynudinov stated that it is very dangerous to “arrange checkers” around the city at speed.

On October 12, the Russian State Traffic Inspectorate gave a definition to the term “aggressive driving”. So, according to the department, aggressive driving is the conscious behavior of the driver on the road in such a way as to increase the risk of an accident, cause physical or emotional harm to other road users. It is noted that aggressive driving itself can be summed up under the term “dangerous driving”.
