They wanted to provide humanitarian aid to the population in the Gaza Strip and paid with their lives: several foreign NGO employees were killed in an air strike. Israel admits blame for the incident.
“Unfortunately, a tragic incident occurred yesterday in which our forces inadvertently struck innocent people in the Gaza Strip,” Netanyahu said in Jerusalem on Tuesday as he left hospital after surgery.
“This happens in war, we examine it thoroughly,” he said. His government is in contact with the governments of those affected and will “do everything to ensure that something like this doesn’t happen again.”
According to the US organization World Central Kitchen, employees from Australia, Poland and Great Britain were killed in the attack on a convoy. The victims also include a person with dual citizenship from the USA and Canada and one or more Palestinians. The aid organization accuses Israel of a “targeted attack”.
