The students are still on summer vacation. But what happens after the holidays? The president of the teachers’ association, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, also expects major restrictions in the coming period as a result of the corona pandemic.
The summer holidays are coming to an end and the number of infections in Germany is rising continuously. Now the teacher association president Heinz-Peter Meidinger expressed the fear in the daily newspaper “Die Welt” that hundreds of thousands of students would have to be quarantined because of the particularly contagious Delta variant of the virus. “Nobody can rule out the possibility that we will get an enormous fourth wave because of the delta variant and the lack of vaccination quota, in which alternate lessons will be necessary again.”
Teachers’ Association calls for honesty in politics
Meidinger called on politicians to be honest. “Anyone who promises now that there will definitely be full face-to-face teaching next year is walking on thin ice,” said the association president. “Face-to-face teaching at any price means accepting the contamination of schools. Politicians should say it that honestly.”
The FDP chairman Christian Lindner spoke out in favor of corona vaccinations in schools. After the summer holidays, schools should no longer have to be closed, Lindner told the newspapers of the Funke media group. “I am in favor of vaccination programs for adolescents in schools. You have to prepare for this on a large scale with mobile vaccination teams.” In the end, however, students and parents would have to decide for themselves whether they wanted a vaccination.
