US President Joe Biden has taken in a new dog in the White House. Biden introduced the puppy “Commander” on Monday with a photo and a short video on Twitter. It is not the first Bidens dog.
The White House has a new resident: US President Joe Biden presented his new dog, Commander, on Monday (local time). “Welcome to the White House, Commander,” the President wrote on Twitter and posted a photo showing the German Shepherd puppy with a tennis ball in its mouth.
The US Democrat also posted a video introducing US citizens to the youngest member of the Biden family. In the recording, the President walks up to Commander and says, “Hey, buddy”. Then he throws a ball to his new pet. According to media reports, the sheepdog is said to be a gift from the family to the 79-year-old. The White House did not provide any further details about the animal.
Joe Biden already had two dogs in the White House
The newcomer should be a welcome distraction for Biden after the president has recently been under heavy pressure. His approval ratings had fallen in the past few weeks, and he must also expect that his trillion-dollar social and climate protection package cannot be passed.
After taking office, Biden had brought his two German Shepherds, Major and Champ, to the White House. Champ died in the summer. Major hit the headlines because of incidents involving White House staff – including biting a member of Biden’s security team. The dog now lives mainly in the family home in Wilmington. First Lady Jill Biden had actually announced in the spring that a cat would soon be moving into the White House. A spokeswoman told CNN that it should be ready in January.
