A “Palestine Congress” will take place in Berlin this weekend. The police are preparing for a major operation. Berlin’s mayor finds the event “unbearable”.
Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner sharply criticized the so-called Palestine Congress in the capital and announced that the police would take consistent action in the event of anti-Semitic statements. “It is unbearable that a so-called Palestine Congress will take place in Berlin,” said the CDU politician to the German Press Agency.
“We do not tolerate anti-Semitism, hatred and agitation against Jews in Berlin. That is why the Berlin police will take consistent action if anti-Semitic statements or crimes occur at this meeting,” said Wegner. “I would like to thank the Berlin police officers for their commitment to ensuring law and order in our city – and protecting and defending our values.”
Police are examining the possibility of imposing conditions
The pro-Palestinian event under the motto “We accuse” was scheduled to begin on Friday and run until Sunday. It will take place in Berlin-Tempelhof on Germaniastrasse. The organizers announced this on their website this morning. The location of the pro-Palestinian event had previously been kept secret for weeks. It said: “Only people with a valid ticket can be guaranteed access.”
