Jury selection enters a new phase. Those who consider themselves suitable for jury service are now being questioned critically, especially by Trump’s defense attorneys. Todd Blanche asks a candidate about a video she posted on Election Day 2020. It apparently celebrates Trump’s election defeat on a street in New York. The candidate replies that she came across the people by chance and perceived the moment as historic. She sees herself in a position to treat Trump fairly, regardless of her own beliefs.
The ex-president comments on the candidates’ statements – loud enough to be noticed, but too quiet to be understood. “I won’t tolerate that,” says the judge. “I will not allow any jury to be intimidated in this courtroom.” He instructs the defense attorney to influence Trump: “Yes, your honor,” Blanche replies. Trump is beside himself.
Judge Merchan ultimately rejects the defense’s request to dismiss the candidate.
