Protest camp: Palestine camp evacuated – demonstrators are dragged away

In support of the Palestinian movement, a group of people camped near the Chancellery. After the camp was banned, the police moved in to evacuate the camp, which was anything but calm.

The Palestine protest camp, which was set up near the Chancellery in Berlin more than two weeks ago, has been cleared by the police. Tents were torn down and protesters were dragged and carried away. The police banned the camp this morning because participants had repeatedly committed crimes and ignored regulations to protect green spaces, officials said. According to observations by dpa photographers, some police officers acted quite brutally during the evacuation.

In the morning, 150 police officers appeared at around 20 small residential tents and a few larger meeting tents and asked the residents to leave the place. Announcements banning the camp were also made over the loudspeaker. Many participants left the tents voluntarily. After the observations, around 20 to 30 linked arms, sat down on the meadow and refused to leave the place.

At the same time, more than 100 supporters gathered for a demonstration loudly protesting against the eviction. Police pulled individual demonstrators out of the crowd and pushed the others back. The demonstrators chanted against the police.

The residents of the protest camp wanted to support the Palestinian movement with their action. Among other things, they demanded that Israel stop supporting Israel and stop supplying weapons.
