After the murder of two Ukrainians in Bavaria, a Russian is considered a suspect. Information comes from Kiev that the victims were members of the armed forces.
In Murnau, Upper Bavaria, investigations into the violent deaths of two Ukrainians are in full swing. A Russian man was caught as a suspect shortly after the crime. An arrest warrant was issued against the 57-year-old on Sunday. According to police, there is so far no evidence that the Russian war of aggression played a role.
According to information from Kiev, the two Ukrainians, aged 23 and 36, who were allegedly stabbed by the Russian were members of the country’s armed forces. The two men were in Germany for medical rehabilitation after war injuries, Ukrainian media reported.
At the crime scene at a shopping center there were flowers and banners, including the words “No – terrorism! No – war! No – murders! No – death!” Next to it are pictures of the two people killed, the Ukrainian flag and candles.
According to the investigations so far, the three men knew each other, as police spokesman Stefan Sonntag said. Details still need to be clarified. It can be assumed that all three had consumed alcohol. “We have clear indications that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol,” said Sonntag.
Sunday did not initially confirm a report from Bayerischer Rundfunk that the suspect admitted the crime. The police spokesman also did not comment on the injuries of the two people killed, who were reportedly treated in Murnau. This is about personal rights.
“A lot of alcohol involved”
Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) had already told Bayerischer Rundfunk on Sunday: “There are witness statements that the three people involved had already been seen together before. There are indications that a lot of alcohol was involved for everyone involved. That “Everything has to be clarified. At the moment we have no compelling indication that this is, so to speak, a reflection of the dispute between Russia and Ukraine.”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had instructed his diplomats to keep a close eye on the case and to maintain constant contact with Germany’s security organs so that the suspect would be punished to the fullest extent of the law, according to reports on Sunday evening. Kuleba thanked the German authorities for the arrest of the 57-year-old suspect, as the Internet portal “Ukrainskaya Pravda” reported.
Police: Crime is not related to Russian war of aggression
According to police, there is so far no evidence that the crime is related to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, which Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin began on February 24, 2022. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians live in Germany.
It is currently being clarified in which Ukrainian units the men served, according to media reports in Kiev. Contact with relatives will also be made.
The Ukrainians lived in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. According to investigators, they died of stab wounds – the older of the two directly at the crime scene, the younger one a short time later in a hospital.
