A little megalomania, a little unrealism and a little madness from the USA – the conspiracy world of the Reich citizens is ready. An overview of the most important myths.
The first trial against suspected members of the Reich Citizen Network has begun before the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court. They are said to have set themselves the goal of overthrowing the democratic order in Germany by force. According to the indictment, the men and women followed a “conglomerate of conspiracy myths.” They are said to have believed that a secret society of foreign states would give them a signal to strike – an overview:
“Deep State”
The conspiracy myth was initially spread in the USA by so-called QAnon followers. Accordingly, the USA is dominated by a criminal elite. According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, this myth is also spreading in German-speaking countries. The alleged conspirators who are now on trial are said to have believed so. According to the federal prosecutor’s indictment, they were firmly convinced that Germany was also currently being ruled by members of a so-called deep state.
“Alliance”
According to the investigators, the defendants hoped to find relief from this situation through a so-called alliance. In their opinion, this is a technically superior secret society of governments, secret services and militaries from various countries such as Russia and the USA. This secret society does not exist – but the group is said to have believed in it so strongly that they even appointed a liaison officer for the “alliance”. Marco van H. is on trial in Stuttgart.
“Day X”
According to the indictment, the group propagated cooperation with this non-existent secret society. Accordingly, it was planned that the so-called alliance should give a signal for “Day X”. This should be the signal for the group to intervene. The idea is said to have been that the “Alliance” should attack the highest state institutions. The group then wanted to eliminate the remaining institutions and officials at the state, district and municipal levels.
According to the Federal Prosecutor General, the death of the British Queen Elizabeth II was discussed as a date. However, she died in September 2022, three months before the major raid against the network with numerous arrests.
“Enemy lists”
The group is said to have already created so-called enemy lists to eliminate state institutions and officials. According to the prosecution, the members were aware that people would die if they planned to take power.
In addition to the plans for “Day

“Advice”
According to investigators, the group wanted to take over the political reorganization of Germany after the coup. The central body was the so-called council, which – similar to a government cabinet – was made up of various departments. Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, a former AfD member of the Bundestag and judge who is being tried in Frankfurt am Main, was responsible for the judiciary.
According to the indictment, the “Council” was supposed to act as a transitional government and negotiate Germany’s new political order with the victorious powers of the Second World War. However, the suspected conspirators only saw Russia as the central contact for this.
According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the leader of the “Council” was Henry XIII. Prince Reuss. Only he was considered as provisional head of state in the group’s plans; he alone was supposed to negotiate a peace treaty.
“Military arm” of the Reich citizens
According to the indictment, this part of the group was affiliated with the “Council” and was supposed to carry out the coup using armed force. To this end, a system of 286 so-called homeland security companies, militarily organized associations, should be set up across Germany. According to the federal prosecutor’s office, the group is said to have had access to a “massive arsenal of weapons” that consisted of around 380 firearms, almost 350 cutting and stabbing weapons and almost 500 other weapon parts.
The former Bundeswehr officer Rüdiger von P., who was accused in Frankfurt, is said to have been at the head of the “military arm”, whom the Federal Prosecutor’s Office sees as a ringleader alongside Reuss. Other suspected members of the military wing are on trial in Stuttgart. At recruiting events they are said to have tried to recruit active or former members of the Bundeswehr and police.
“non-disclosure agreement”
The federal prosecutor’s office said the group had isolated itself from the outside world. Members and interested parties would have had to sign a so-called confidentiality agreement. This was drawn up by two defendants, Markus H. and Ralf S., also in Stuttgart, on the instructions of van H. According to the indictment, violations of the “non-disclosure agreement” should be punished with death as high treason.
