AfD leading candidate Maximilian Krah is steering clear of Hesse for the time being. After allegations of possible Russia and China connections and the arrest of an employee, the election campaign should start here without him.
The controversial AfD leading candidate for the European elections, Maximilian Krah, has canceled his participation in the AfD’s campaign launch in Hesse on Friday evening. This happened several days ago without giving any reasons, said a Hessian party spokesman. Krah was not unloaded. The start of the election campaign in the state was planned on Friday evening (May 3rd) in Neu-Anspach in the Hochtaunuskreis with, among others, the Hessian AfD candidate Christine Anderson. Krah could not initially be reached.
Krah also canceled the start of the election campaign in Baden-Württemberg
The EU parliamentarian is criticized for possible connections to Russia and China as well as the arrest of an employee on suspicion of espionage. Krah also canceled the AfD’s election campaign launch with its federal leadership on April 27th in Donaueschingen, Baden-Württemberg, at short notice. However, on May 1st he appeared again in his home state of Saxony in Chemnitz and Dresden.
A planned second Hessian AfD election campaign event this Saturday (May 4th) in Offenbach – also originally with Krah – should be “combined” with the start on Friday evening, i.e. canceled anyway, the party spokesman added. Krah was originally expected to attend further AfD events in Hesse in the next few days.
The European elections in Germany are on June 9th. The AfD became the largest opposition faction in the state parliament in Hesse in the state elections in October 2023. According to its own information, the party has around 3,250 members in the federal state, which has had a black-red government since January.
