This Tuesday, Vladimir Putin will be reinstated as Russian President. The war in Ukraine has not damaged his popularity; on the contrary: Putin needs him to stay in power.
At twelve o’clock this noon Moscow time, Vladimir Putin will strut through the Kremlin’s golden St. Andrew’s Hall for the fifth time, accompanied by the sound of trumpets and applauded by his country’s elite – ready to rule Russia for the next six years. Ready to continue waging war on neighboring Ukraine. Also ready to challenge the West and sacrifice tens of thousands more citizens for its great power fantasies.
And most Russians have little to complain about.
