The health of the Iranian human rights activist Nasrin Sotudeh is not going well. Now the detainee has the opportunity for a few doctor’s appointments.
The imprisoned human rights activist Nasrin Sotudeh has been given five days’ leave, according to her husband.
Various medical examinations are to be carried out at Sotudeh during the five days, according to Resa Chandan on his Facebook page on Thursday. He also posted a picture of Sotudeh and her two children after their temporary release from Gharachak Prison south of the capital Tehran.
Sotudeh’s health over the past few months has been worrying, especially after her nearly 50-day hunger strike last year. Among other things, the 58-year-old suffers from a weak heart. With the hunger strike, the lawyer and women’s rights activist wanted to protest against the prison conditions of political prisoners during the corona pandemic. Last November, she herself tested positive for the corona virus.
Sotudeh is accused of “subversive propaganda”. There are different statements about her prison sentence. According to her husband, she was sentenced to 33 years and six months in prison and 148 lashes by a Revolutionary Court in 2018. She must serve at least 12 years from detention. But later there was also talk of 38 years. Sotudeh had denied all charges against her in court.
