AfD city council member: Politician’s house attacked in Halle/Saale

In Saxony-Anhalt, unknown people attacked a single-family home in which, among others, an AfD politician lives. However, it remains to be clarified whether the attack was aimed at him personally.

On Monday night, unknown people threw stones and an incendiary device against a single-family home in Halle an der Saale, where a member of the AfD faction in the city council lives. The perpetrators threw stones at windows and damaged two panes, Halle police announced on Monday.

They also threw an incendiary device at the front door, which was reportedly extinguished by a resident of the house. A doormat was damaged.

Resident is AfD candidate for local elections

Neither witnesses nor the police were able to identify any suspicious people nearby, it was said. The investigation is still in its early stages, said a police spokesman. The investigation is underway for attempted serious arson and damage to property. Officials secured evidence on site. The use of a tracking dog initially did not lead to the arrest of a suspect.

According to the police, a member of the AfD faction of the Halle city council lives in the affected house in Halle-Kröllwitz, who will also be running in the local elections in June.

The state security agency, which is responsible for politically motivated crimes, is investigating. However, the crime could also have a different background. “The investigations are going in all directions,” emphasized the police spokesman. The material damage is estimated at a total of 320 euros.
