For a long time, Ukraine was a country of patriarchy, especially in the military. The Russian invasion radically changes society. Women pilot drones and prove themselves on the front lines. Because in Kiev we know: without women fighting, the country is lost.
Anzhelika Wolovich has a special talent – she is great at reading cards. “That’s why the commander usually uses me to decide where the drones should fly,” says the 29-year-old Ukrainian. “But every now and then he lets me fly the missions myself – and shoot.”
Most recently, on the front near Donetsk, she discovered a Russian van in the forest and attacked it. “One second before the impact, the connection to the drone was lost,” she says. “But a day later I saw the burned-out wreckage of the car on a video online and had proof: I was successful.”
